Do you think she’s going to do everything correctly? KQ: Does anyone know anything about the character Amelia from previous books?

Explanation: After I read the story, you will be creating a character trait map on Amelia Bedelia. You will identify 4 traits of hers and points in the book where she demonstrates that trait. You will have to mention particular parts of the story, so listen very carefully.

Modeling/Demonstration: Everyone come and sit in the read-aloud area. This book is Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish. It is springtime and Amelia just got a new job at the Rogers home. She has a list of chores to do while they are gone. Listen carefully to be able to describe Amelia.
Begin reading:………KQ: How does Amelia “dress” the chicken?KQ: What traits describe Amelia? When in the book did she act that way?

Independent Practice: In groups of 4 ( in the tables they sit at) complete the character trait map on Amelia Bedelia. Together on the board we’ll come up with a list of words to describe Amelia. What part of the book is she creative? We will go over each trait, and then silently you will fill out your paper. When finished, you can draw your favorite scene from the book on the back of your sheet. After, we will have some fun like Amelia. We’ll get to dress our own chicken. You get to choose if you want girl or boy clothes for your chicken. KQ: What did Mrs. Rogers mean when she asked Amelia to dress the chicken?

Closure: Let’s review everything we did today. Lets talk about what we learned. KQ: What was the book, Amelia Bedilia, about? KQ: What is a character trait map that we did? What did we write about?
